"La Viuda Negra": From the Shocking Case to the Netflix Film with Ivana Baquero

In October Ivana Baquero's agency had hinted to a new project and since then, our girl has been very busy on set filming. The new project is titled La Viuda Negra, and it's an upcoming movie by Netflix and Bambù producciones, the studio behind Alta Mar (High Seas).

La Viuda Negra (translated: The Black Widow) is based on the shocking case of the "black widow of Partraix" - a nighbourhood of Valencia, Spain.

In this thriller produced by Bambù Producciones, Ivana Baquero becomes María Jesús Moreno Cantó, known as Maje, while Tristán Ulloa plays Salva. Carmen Machi, one of the most beloved actresses on the Spanish scene, completes the cast under the direction fo Carlos Sedes.

The production, which recently began filming in Valencia, promises to keep us on the edge of our seats.

Ramón Campos, executive producer, shared an intriguing reflection on the film: “Why would someone prefer to commit murder rather than get divorced?” This was the disturbing question that caught him when he learned about Maje and Salvador’s crime. Over the years, they have tried to decipher this mystery. “We are not looking to justify, but to understand why Maje manipulated Salvador to kill a man who was, without a doubt, a good person. This story is not about the victim; it is about the murderers. Because, sometimes, the key to our actions is not in who we are, but in our roots".

Down below you can read the plot of La Viuda Negra:

August 2017. The body of a man appears in a parking lot in Valencia, stabbed seven times. Everything points to a crime of passion. The city's Homicide Squad, headed by a veteran inspector, launches a race-back investigation that soon leads them to a suspect that no one expected: Maje, the young, sweet and serene widow who had been married to the victim for less than a year.
